The field of robotic surgery is just one quarter of a century. The robotic surgical procedure was first performed in 1988. Intuitive Surgical introduced the da Vinci Illinois, five years after surgical robot. This robot consists of three components: a console behind which a surgeon is seated and directs the operation. For a four robot arms next to the patient: a control arm of a dual system of the camera lens and the other three arms manipulate the tools – like a scalpel, Bovie, scissors, and electrocautery instruments – controlled by a surgeon. Hand movements the surgeon are filtered by the robot to eliminate hand tremor, and then translated into micro-movements of surgical instruments into the joint of the arm robot. The third component of the system is a high resolution three-dimensional vision systems, providing a stereoscopic image of the procedure the surgeon console. The surgeon sits at the console and looks through the eyepieces a magnificent view of the three dimensions in the patient's body while manipulating the robot arm with two controllers and two hand pedals. There really is not necessary that the surgeon can be anywhere close to the patient: remote operations with the patient and the surgeon in different countries or continents as possible.
The first heart surgery in 1896, and surgery large vessels became a common practice in the twentieth century. In early cardiothoracic surgery needed to stop the heart and draining the blood, which was successfully completed in the 1950s by manipulating blood flow through the heart and lungs of a family member during operation, and subsequently using a pump oxygenator. In the early 1990s, CABG was performed with the heart the patient is still beating. The first use of the Da Vinci surgical robot to assist in cardiothoracic surgery took place in 1998 when a German doctor performed the first coronary bypass surgery in Leipzig, Germany. One year after the beating of a first coronary bypass coronary artery was made in Canada. The main advantage robot-assisted heart surgery is that the size of the incision should not be large enough to accommodate the surgeon's hands. In contrast, smaller incision large enough to grab the robot is not by all that is required, which means less trauma, blood loss, and healing time faster for the patient. Many patients can resume a sport in a few weeks (instead of months) after surgery.
Another area medicine has been revolutionized by the da Vinci robot is the treatment of prostate cancer. Prostate cancer is a disease in which malignant cells develop in the prostate gland. The prostate is part of the male reproductive system that produces semen, located in front of the rectum and below the bladder. Cancer the prostate is usually treated by removing the prostate surgery, called radical prostatectomy. Prostatectomy involves traditional large incisions that result by blood loss and a great discomfort and recovery period piece, with the risk of incontinence and impotence. The minimally invasive da Vinci prostatectomy leaves small incisions heal quickly, causing a rapid return of continence and sexual function and a higher rate and longer survival than traditional treatments.
The Ilinois da Vinci surgical robot is not only the treatment of choice for cardiothoracic surgery. Small incisions means minimal loss of blood and quick healing time, which has made the da Vinci system the gold standard for prostate cancer treatments as well.

Medical professionals – My stepfather is having an intravenous feeding, which is inserted into your heart, need info ..?
Never heard discuss this procedure, even with 17 years of providing care in a hospice. My mother died of fear. Can anyone tell me what this means? Is it as risky as it seems? Is this common practice? To tell you a little …. had cancer prostate and bladder. They do surgery and remove the tumor. Since the operation has not been able to tolerate any nutrition by mouth (even water). It was a week. Now they say they have to do this procedure. Need real information on this subject. I promised my mother had to research, but I do not know where to start. Any information would be very appriciated! Thank you very much.
Is there any Over time, this is called total parenteral nutrition, TPN, for short. An intravenous catheter placed in a large container, usually in the neck, sometimes on the shoulder or chest, and yes it is near the heart, but not in heart. The reason is that the blood moves quickly and can dilute the fastest solution inside the probe. This is not an unusual treatment, I have personally treated many patients with many who have received total parenteral nutrition, and always enjoyed gave them power to heal, and all have finally started to eat. Do not panic, tell your mother to relax, it's really a good way to go.
